UA Steele Children’s Research Center Welcomes New Special Events and Development Coordinators
Katie James, MPA, and Michelle MacDonald have joined the University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center ascoordinators, special events and development.
As members of the development team, both James and MacDonald will coordinate special events benefitting the UA Steele Center and the University of Arizona Medical Center – Diamond Children’s.
In addition to coordinating special events, James will serve as a liaison and representative to volunteer groups and donors who support the UA Steele Center, such as Kids of Steele and UA-affiliated groups.
James graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in history and the UA with a Master of Public Administration. James has a strong background in non-profit operations, special events, grant writing and volunteer coordination.
“Supporting the mission to improve children’s health through research and discovery is a very rewarding opportunity,” said James. “I’m excited to be part of the Steele Center team and grateful to be surrounded by compassionate people who are working together to build a stronger community and make a difference in this world.”
In addition to coordinating special events, MacDonald will serve as a liaison and representative to Father’s Day Council Tucson and other community-based organizations and donors who support the UA Steele Center.
MacDonald completed a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arizona. Prior to joining the UA, she worked as a regional director for First Things First, supervising the activities of a volunteer grant-making body in north Pima County, guiding members to build and expand an early childhood education and health system in Arizona.
“I have spent the last seven years of my career advocating for the wellbeing of children,” said MacDonald. “The innovative research and treatment I have encountered since joining the development team has been inspiring and has the power to improve outcomes for children. I look forward to promoting children’s healthy development in my work with the Steele Center and Diamond Children’s.”
