Salpointe Presents Annual Chuck Cecil Humanitarian Award to Roger Canchola

Tucson, Ariz., March 24, 2014 — Salpointe Catholic High School is honored to present its annual Chuck Cecil Humanitarian Award to Roger Canchola.

Chuck and Carrie Cecil created the award in 2006 to honor their close friend, Willie Kane, a professional golfer and graduate of Salpointe’s class of 1987 who passed away in 2006. The award is presented annually at Salpointe’s Willie Kane Memorial Golf Tournament to an Arizonan whose time, work and life serve as a role model of caring and giving to others.
Canchola is known for following in the footsteps of his father, José Canchola, the late Tucson businessman and philanthropist. He’s a strong supporter of economic development and believes in giving back to the community in support of local schools and businesses.

“Roger Canchola is one of those people you have to admire. He sports a ‘can do’ attitude, he dearly loves his family, and he makes you feel like you are his best friend,” says Kay Sullivan, Salpointe President. “A quiet philanthropist, he honors the individual dignity of each and every person with kindness and respect. Roger Canchola is most deserving of the Chuck Cecil Humanitarian Award and Salpointe Catholic is pleased to present him with this high honor.”

Canchola is a past member of Salpointe’s Board of Directors and a current board member of the Salpointe Catholic Education Foundation. He and his wife, Raquel, are proud parents of Luis ’09, Nicholas ’17 and future lancer Vicente ’21.

Previous winners of the Chuck Cecil Humanitarian Award include:
2013 – Bob Mutterperl
2008 – Steve Russo, Class of ’71
2012 – Rick Tornquist, Class of ’81
2007 – Jim Click, Jr.
2011 – Mike Harris, Class of ’56
