For the past five years, the parent company of Second Sky—Creative Machines Inc. — has held free S.T.E.A.M field trips for students and families from schools in Pima County. During these visits, kids develop initiative by exercising autonomy and critical thinking skills. They explore, take risks, challenge and support each other in creative ways.
These field trips have been a labor of love that CMI has hosted monthly. Over the years, visitors have asked CMI to build a permanent facility. Schools want to bring students here more often, families want to become members, and non-profit partners want to run their after-school programs here. In response to the demand, /Second Sky: Science Garden + Social Club is being built on the CMI campus for all ages to enjoy year-round.
In addition to an established network of community support, Second Sky has a sustainable business model designed to support itself after we have secured initial capital. While we wait for the 501c3 nonprofit certification, we are grateful to have Groundswell Capital as our fiscal sponsor, enabling us to accept tax deductible contributions.
