Crest Insurance Donates Computers to Local Charities
The American Lung Association of Southern Arizona and Old Pueblo Community Services are recipients of gently used computers, donated by Crest Insurance through the Wish List Hero organization.
“Our current computers were more than five years old,” said Amber Mazzei, executive director, American Lung Association of Southern Arizona. “Receiving these four new-to-us computers kept nearly $2,000 in our operational budget, which allows us to make more of an impact on the folks we are committed to helping. That’s what we love about Wish List Hero, it gives people a different way to make a tangible donation.”
Recently launched Wish List Hero, (www.wishlisthero.org), provides an online tool where nonprofits post a wish list of items their organizations need to support their day-to-day operations. Wishes can include toys, tools, carpeting, movie tickets, furniture, or sponsored tuition for kids’ camps. Individuals or corporations are able to donate directly or launch a Hero Campaign to crowdfund a particular effort.
“We were drawn to the concept Wish List Hero presented and thrilled to find a way to get involved,” said Cody Ritchie, president of Crest Insurance. “We knew that donating our gently used computers could help these two local charities increase efficiency and ultimately help more of our neighbors. It was a win-win.”
Old Pueblo Community Services plans to use their six new-to-them computers for their residents to search for jobs and update their resumes.
“Wish List Hero is a novel concept that we use as a tool to raise awareness for our organization,” said Nancy Jones, director of development, Old Pueblo Community Services. “We depend on federal grants and donations for operational funding, but want to increase community involvement. By sharing our needs and wishes, we open our organization up for everyday philanthropy like the donation of these computers.”
