Cox Charities Names 20 Southern Arizona Charities to Receive $100,000 in Grant Funding

Cox Charities announced today its selection of 20 Southern Arizona nonprofit organizations to receive more than $100K in grant funding.  Most of the funds awarded came from the generous donations of Cox’s 3,100 Arizona employees.  Since the program’s inception in 1996, Cox Charities has awarded approximately $8.5 million to local Arizona nonprofits that support youth and education.

“Cox employees are deeply embedded in the communities we serve in Arizona and now more than ever, are committed to supporting and volunteering to make a difference,” said Lisa Lovallo, Southern Arizona market vice president for Cox Communications. “We are proud to stand behind so many nonprofit partners that are working hard during this challenging time to educate children and support families throughout Arizona.”

One local grant recipient is the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson’s only museum devoted to contemporary art from around the globe. The museum is also an important incubator and connector for contemporary art across the Southwest region and beyond.  “We so appreciate being awarded this grant. It will go towards bringing arts education to Title 1 schools where arts funding may have been cut. Now, more than ever, we need arts inspiration in our communities. We’ve pivoted this whole program to be adapted over Zoom so that we can visit over 40 classrooms this fall semester and bring art into these children’s homes,” said Mora Reidl, curator of community engagement.

Another Cox Charities grant recipient is Tu Nidito Children and Family Services, helping to provide a community of acceptance and understanding to children in grief through free emotional support. “Services in our community are needed, much more now than ever, by families dealing with the impact of COVID. We are so tremendously grateful to be recipients of this grant,” said Becky Slade, director of development.

Meli Acuna is just one of the 3,100 Cox employees who are behind the donations to these 111 Arizona non-profits. “It’s quite a feeling to know that my company empowers us to give in a way that makes such a meaningful difference to such worthy nonprofits throughout Arizona. Through Cox Charities, we help ensure that our youth get the educational services they need and don’t fall through the cracks. That makes me extremely proud,” said Acuna.
