Bear Down or Forks Up, John Winchester understands the power of Arizona universities.
“Arizona universities are integral parts of their communities. There is something for everyone to participate in: arts, athletics, museums, libraries, and special events supporting research and individual units,” said Winchester, director of government and community engagement for Arizona State University in Southern Arizona.
A Tucson native, Winchester holds an MPA and a Graduate Certification in Nonprofit Leadership Management from UArizona. The lifelong learner is working toward a master’s degree in classic liberal education and leadership at ASU.
Winchester’s credentials include a Flinn-Brown Fellowship for the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership, alumnus of the Honorary Commander Program at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, member of the board of directors for Sun Corridor, Inc.
“The higher education system is part of the success of economic development, partnering with local governments at new levels as well as private sector partners in research and workforce development. In Arizona, a holistic system of community building is developing intentionally and it is powerful.”
