Startup Teams Can Enter Competition for Launch Help

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) is teaming up with Perkins Coie LLP to sponsor one promising startup with the resources, facilities, services, and expertise it takes to grow a business. The UACI Sponsored Launch Program Fueled by Perkins Coie, will award a startup team that is on an active mission to solve a significant business or social challenge through a business, the opportunity to access a complimentary year’s entry into UACI’s incubator program, which includes business support as well as the direct connections to the entrepreneurial ecosystem and business community $4,000 cash prize and 10 hours of legal assistance from Perkins Coie totaling $15,000. 

In alignment with the mission of UACI to fuel Arizona’s economy by supporting startups, the incubator sought new opportunities to support startups through the Sponsored Launch Program with community collaboration through business leaders that are committed to improving the community. 

UACI offers customized business support to ensure startups have a successful launch through a structured business development program that works with entrepreneurs to develop a business plan, identify target markets, refine the prototype, prepare a business pitch presentation, secure investment, and successfully launch into the market. UACI provides dedicated space for startups where they can work alongside other entrepreneurs in a fast-paced environment. The winning team will also be automatically connected to an extensive network of professionals and mentors.

Perkins Coie is a law firm whose services include eleven different practices such as corporate law, litigation, and product liability law just to name a few. They also cater to six different industries, technology, and communications being one of them. Clients also have access to business experts with experience in recruitment, technology, professional development, and more. Perkin Coie will work directly with the winning startup team to set the business up for success.  

This unique sponsored launch competition is open to the University of Arizona startup community as well as general community startups.    

Application submissions open on May 4 and close on May 31, 2020. After a review and interviewing process, the plan is to announce the winning team on June 12, 2020

The winning team will then go through the incubation program on July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021. 

Applicants must meet certain qualifications. The startup must be located in Arizona, have at least two team members, pursue a scalable business model, committed to providing a real solution, dedicated to commercialization, and have a need for incubation services.
