Forbes Names Tucson a Top U.S. City Chosen by Remote Workers in 2026
Tucson continues to gain national attention as a destination for people looking for the right combination of affordability, quality of life, and opportunity.
A recent Forbes article, “7 American Cities Remote Workers Are Choosing in 2026,” includes Tucson among a select group of communities attracting remote workers from across the country.
The July 2026 article notes that the remote-work landscape is changing. While the first wave of remote work gave employees the freedom to work from virtually anywhere, today’s remote workers are increasingly looking beyond traditional technology hubs and high-cost coastal cities for communities where they can build a sustainable lifestyle.
Tucson stands out as one of those destinations.
For Tucson and Pima County, the recognition reinforces many of the advantages that have long made Southern Arizona an attractive place to live and do business. The region offers a comparatively affordable cost of living, a strong sense of place, abundant outdoor recreation, a nationally recognized culinary scene and access to the educational, cultural and research assets of the University of Arizona. Tucson’s designation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy further adds to the distinctive quality of life that helps the region compete for talent.
The ability to attract remote workers also has broader economic development benefits. Remote professionals bring income from employers located throughout the country while spending much of that income locally on housing, restaurants, retail, entertainment and professional services. They can also become part of the region’s talent pool, entrepreneurial ecosystem and business community—creating new connections and opportunities for local companies.
Tucson’s appearance on Forbes’ 2026 list is another indication that quality of place has become an increasingly important component of economic competitiveness. As companies and workers become more flexible about where work happens, communities that combine affordability, connectivity, amenities and an exceptional quality of life are well positioned to attract talent.
